Make your expertise easy to inspect before asking for more visibility

An agency or consultant needs more than broad capability claims. Build a small set of proof pages that explain the work, its context and the decisions a prospective client needs to make.

Choose a claim worth proving

Begin with a sentence your prospects need to believe. A hypothetical customer-experience consultant might claim to help teams reduce friction in complex sign-up journeys. That claim needs more substance than a list of services or an attractive homepage.

Ask what a careful buyer would need to inspect: the kinds of journeys reviewed, the research approach, the deliverables and the limits of the engagement. Turn those questions into a proof-page brief. The goal is to make the decision easier, not to decorate the page with every past client logo or every tool the consultant has used.

Tell the story of a decision

Structure a real project example around a decision: what was uncertain, what evidence was collected, what changed and what happened afterward. Include the context that makes the result meaningful. A shorter completion time means little without knowing the task, audience and measurement method.

When a project cannot be discussed publicly, explain the method with a clearly labeled demonstration. Show an illustrative form and describe how you would investigate its problems. Do not attach invented performance gains or imply that the demonstration was a client engagement. Honest boundaries make the material easier for a buyer to evaluate.

Make the offer and proof agree

Compare the case material with the service currently sold. If the proof concerns large enterprise redesigns but the offer is a one-week small-business review, explain the relevant connection. Otherwise, a prospect may assume the short engagement includes the same breadth of research and implementation.

Add concrete output examples appropriate to the offer: a prioritized issue list, annotated journey, revised page or test plan. Clarify what the client can use immediately and what requires later work. A proof page should reduce ambiguity about the service rather than create a more impressive but less accurate expectation.

Earn corroboration through useful participation

Identify communities and partners where your expertise is relevant. A thoughtful workshop for service operators, a practical contribution to an industry guide or an honest discussion of a completed project can give people a reason to reference the work.

Keep the contribution useful on its own. Avoid treating every relationship as an opportunity to place a link. Google’s current guidance warns against artificial mentions. For your own planning, track the quality of the interaction, the audience served and the material created. Those records help distinguish substantive reputation-building from activity that merely increases a spreadsheet count.

Use questions from sales to maintain the evidence

Review the objections and uncertainties that appear in real conversations. If prospects keep asking who implements the recommendations, add a direct answer and an example handoff. If they misunderstand a result, improve its context. This creates a maintenance loop driven by actual buying decisions.

Measure whether better-informed prospects reach the next step and whether sales conversations spend less time correcting assumptions. Those are observations to investigate, not automatic proof of causation. Visibility work becomes more useful when the evidence page, service page and delivery process tell the same accurate story.

Put it to work

  1. Select one important capability claim.
  2. Show context, method and limits in project examples.
  3. Label demonstrations separately from client results.
  4. Align evidence with the actual engagement scope.
  5. Update proof pages using recurring sales questions.
